Bledel rose to fame when she got the lead role of Rory Gilmore in The WB’s comedy-drama titled Gilmore Girls in which she starred from 2000 until 2007. Her outstanding performance in the series led her to book more gigs and continued to play a variety of roles during the time she was appearing in Gilmore Girls.  In 2012 the actress again came to the spotlight after starring in the drama series Mad Men in which she got a recurring role. Kimberly Alexis Bledel was born on the 16th of September 1981, in Houston, Texas, to mother Nanette (née Dozier) and father Martin Bledel. Her mother used to work as a gift processor and flight attendant from Mexico while her dad grew up in  Argentina.  Alexis grew up with her younger brother Eric David in a Spanish-speaking family. As a child, she and her family used to speak Spanish later Alexis learned the English language when she started going to school.  Growing up in Houston, Alexis attended Catholic St. Agnes Academy before studying at Lutheran and Baptist academies. As a child, Alexis was a shy person so in order to get rid of that her mother decided to put her into theatre work. She became the cast of the local productions called The Wizard of Oz and Our Town.  Around the same time, Alexis was discovered by a scout at a local shopping mall and from there she got a modeling gig. Following her graduation from high school, Alexis went on to study film in 1999 at the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts which she attended for one year.

Alexis made her film debut in the 1998 comedy movie Rushmore directed by Wes Anderson, in which she played an uncredited role. The first turning point of her career came in 2000 when Alexis was announced to become the cast of the popular comedy series Gilmore Girls. From 2000 to 2007 she played the lead role of Rory Gilmore with actress Lauren Graham.   On the 5th of October 2000, that series started airing and it ran for its 7th season and 153 episodes. Later in the year 2016, the actress reprised her role when the 4 episode miniseries titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was released.  Between her work in Gilmore Girls, she worked on numerous projects including the 2002 film Tuck Everlasting directed by Jay Russel in which she played Winifred Foster Jackson.
